1.) What is your name and your role here at the Farmers Market?
"My name is Jacob, and I am a sales man."
2.) Why do you choose to sell here?
"I sell here because it's my job, and this is where they send me to work. Sometimes they have me sell at other locations."
3.) When did you first start selling here?
"I first started selling freshly and organic foods around three and a half years ago."
4.) Do you garden at home?
"I own a small garden of my own at my house, but it's not a really big one. Only just a few plants."
5.) What would be your advice to get others to do what you do? Or like would you advice them to eat organic? "Yes, I would advice people to eat and buy organic foods. Organic is always better other then foods that go through along process because organic foods and fresh foods have a better taste and there are no chemicals in them."
*My Reflection*
1. What struck me about the Farmers Market was how many people were there, I didn't think there where going to be that much people there. Also as I was walking around and you see the sellers talking to the buyers and helping them out they were really interacted with them and they weren't rude or anything. They all seamed really happy.
2. Which items were cheaper than you expected? Which were more expensive? To me I didn't find that there was a certain item that was more expensive or more cheaper. I think all the prices were around the same price at stores.
3. Do you think you will start going to a farmers market more often? Or using a community garden? Or supporting a CSA?
If it was my choice i think i would because when I went to the farmers market the fruit and everything the seam and look way more better the ones that you buy at a store. But going to a store takes more time.
4. How do these locations fit into our essential questions of "Why Don't People Live More Sustainably?" and "How Can I Convince them to do So?"
Because to live more sustainable it cost more, and people don't have money for that. they can't afford to live better that's why they buy the cheeps stuff instead or starving themselves.
Through everything, they were always there for each other. When his dad walked out on them he was there for his mom and she was there for him. Ever since he was10 years old he was the man of the house. He wasn’t like most kids; he had matured way earlier then all his friends. He didn’t have a father figure his whole life; neither did his younger brothers or sisters so he felt like he was the father figure to them. His mom would always thank him for everything he’s done for his bother and sisters, for the impact he had on their life, how she wouldn’t know what she would have done if he didn’t help out as much as he did.
When they found out that his mom was sick, and her time was coming. She only told him so that the younger ones wouldn’t worry. That’s when he knew he had to really get his stuff together, no matter what it meant. If he had to give up biking with the Hells Angels and get a real job then that’s what he had to do. His mom would tell him that she’s not that scared about where the kids are going to be, because he was going to get full custody of his younger brother and two sisters but not the other brother because he was already 20 and was on his own. But she knew they were in good hands with him. Which put more responsibility on him, and made him feel like if he doesn’t do it or if he messes up then he’s done and he put his mom down and that’s the last thing he wants to do. All the things his mom done for him, he knows that it’s worth giving up biking even though he doesn’t want to.
“How’s mom feeling?” asked Jasmine as she was walking into her mom’s room.
“She’s okay, not too good though.” Replied Richard sitting next to his mom’s bed holding her hand as she sleeps.
“Richard I’m only nine years old, I can’t lose my mom so soon.”
“I know, but throughout mom’s whole life she was a strong, single parent with five kids, she did whatever she could to take care of us. Sometimes things in life happen and we have to face it. Maybe heaven would be a better place for her…”
As he continues going on about how his mom might die, his voice sounded different. It sounded like a little kid going up on stage for the first time in front of a lot of people, and when he starts to talk he begins to cry and runs of the stage. But while Richard was feeling so much pain inside of him, he tried to act like it didn’t hurt him that much so his little sister wouldn’t get so sad about it. While they were talking they would both look at their mom sleep then look back at each other. They were holding their tears back.
Seeing how much this was going to affect his sister he was really thinking how much this is going to affect their life.
As time is passing, things are getting worse; his mom has to go to the hospital. Any day now could be the day she leaves. So everybody is using his or her time wisely like if there was no tomorrow. Family is coming to visit, but Richard never leaves the room no matter what. He knows soon enough he’s going to be planning a funeral; he’s already going to start. He made sure he asked his mom what she wants him to do, she’s naming things, he’s writing it down making sure its right so it could be like she wanted.
May 29th 11:59 p.m is the last time he talked to his mom, hugged her, and said good-bye. He wished this never had to happen to him. All his brothers and sister plus him couldn’t stop crying when they saw her eyes close.
The next few weeks were really hard for them. They couldn’t go to school because all they wanted to do was cry. It wasn’t a surprised, how could they just get over their mom’s death like that. Throughout his all Richard is stressing, he doesn’t know what to do. He didn’t know it was going to be this hard, but he promised his mom something and he’s going to be their for his brothers and sisters no matter what.
It’s the day of the funeral; so far everything’s going good. Jasmine is practicing on the speech she’s going to say at the funeral. In Richard’s mind he felt like something was wrong or he missed something, but he doubled checked everything and everything seemed fine.
As Jasmine is doing the speech at the funeral, Richard is standing about five feet away from her, he notice a bike gang. He thinks back to when his bike gang got in a fight with them. Then he looks at the Hells Angels because they were there for support, and then gives a sign to one of them. He tells the other one secretly so all the family and friends wont panic. Within seconds their driving pass the funeral, Richard sees one of them pull out a gun and aim towards his sisters as she’s talking.
For him everything is going slow motion. Thinking to himself “What’s going on? What Am I going to do? Their not going to take my sister, I just lost my mom I can’t let this happen.” He jumps in front of her to save her from the bullet. Everybody runs to him seeing if he’s okay, all the girls are freaking out more then the boys yelling call the ambulance. Jasmine is hugging him tightly crying even more. She’s not worrying about the blood that’s getting all over her dress, she just wants her brother to be okay.
“Richard come one! Stay strong the ambulances are going to be here any moment now. Richard please stay strong, I can’t lose you too! Richard say something!” Jasmine said with much tears coming down here eyes as if a rain drops falling down on a bad stormy day.
By the time the ambulance got their, it was too late. Another death in the family, how can this be happening?
1st Goal: One of my main goals forT this semester is turning in work on time, and completed. One of the ways that I am planing on working on that is doing my homework when i get it instead on waiting last minute. Also stay focused with my school and make that my first priority when I get home.
2nd Goal: A second goal for me this semester is to us my sources wisely. When I say that I mean using office hours if I need help with something, and taking advantage of my work. Also taking advantage of the people that are around me, asking them to help me.
3rd Goal: My last goal for this semester is using ownership more.Taking my time in doing my work and not just doing it to do get it mark down as i did. Also putting more thought in what I do.
Project Description: For the humanities part in the times travelers project we were required to write a research paper and draw pillar based on our civilization. Each civilization had four different pillars. Art & Architecture, Science & Technology, Government, and also Religion & Society. So depending on the pillar you got, that's what you had to write about. For example say your in the Aztecs civilization and you got government as your pillar, then you would right a research paper on the art & architecture from the Aztecs civilization. Same with the pillars design, you had to paint a picture based on your pillar and civilization. For example I painted a temple and sun, the temple was for architecture and the sun was for their art.
Reflection:
Through out this project i learned a lot. I mainly learned about the Aztecs art & architecture since that was my pillar and civilization. I also learned how to write a bibliography for our research paper. At first it was a little confusing but the activity that we did with Alyssa helped me understand it more. A challenged that I really had was writing the research paper. I missed a day which put me behind and made me do more work and it was more confusing. I also missed the day that they did foot notes in class, and that was one of the requirements for our paper and made harder for me. This would help me later on in the future because if I have to write a research paper I would have to write a bibliography and now I know how to. This projected also helped me with my personal life and I'm happy that I got the Aztecs civilization, because my grabdpa is really into that stuff and I'm a bit more familiar about what he's talking about.
Research Paper
The Aztec Civilization Art & Architecture
What is a civilization? Civilization has many different definitions. A civilization has art & architecture, religion & society, technology & science, and government. All this makes a successful civilization. Sometimes if you have all these things included doesn’t mean that it’s successful. The reason why I say that is because they’re all split up into four different parts. Just because one part is a success doesn’t mean that the whole civilization is a success. Even though the art & architecture was a success for the Aztecs, doesn’t mean that the science & technology was.
By 1325 the Aztecs started building a fine city called Tenochtitlan. The reason why they called it Tenochtitlan was because Aztecs were also known as Tenochcas. It means “Place of The Tenochcas.” Tenochtitlan is a number of small islands in the middle of Lake Texcoco. It took the Aztecs awhile to actually settle down and make their own city because different civilizations in Mexico attacked and pushed the Aztecs out of land that they tried to claim. One thing that is unique about this civilization is their art. The drawings that they made for their Codices books were very colorful. The way that they got colors was dye from fruits and vegetables.
Art was a strength that the Aztecs had. It was unique because you could tell that they took their time. Their art pieces were so colorful and beautiful. Their main strength is the Codices books. One of the main reasons why we know so much about Aztecs today is because of their art. It thought us more about their gods and religions. They also have a strength in architecture. Tenochtitlan was full of magnificent buildings, their temples, and palaces. You can tell they took their time on making their art and temples look nice and beautiful they weren’t just a civilization that worried about attacking people. They made sure that their temples and art looked nice in respect to their gods.
In my pillar there weren’t really a lot of weaknesses. The reason why I say that it because the way they got their paint and stuff was from dyes. But maybe a weakness is that if they weren’t attacked as much at the time by other civilizations and tribes around them, they would have been able to have more time to build their temples and make them look nicer without having to worry about people attacking them. And if they were a richer civilization they could have made their art & architecture look better then it already was. Also with the other civilizations taking over their land made them lose materials, and if that didn’t happen they would probably be richer.
The Maya civilization was similar with the Aztec civilization. They were very religious, intelligent, artistic, and had good architecture. Their art pieces represented their gods and the temples to honor the gods. Same with the Aztecs they did that to. I would have to say that the Aztecs and Mayans were both on the same level in art & architecture. Both civilizations took their time honoring their gods with their art & architecture.
The art & architecture for the Aztecs was a success because today they still have some of their art. And since today the main reason why we know so much about the Aztecs was through the art that we found. The architecture was also a success. Since the Aztecs instead of breaking down a whole temple to build a new one, they built it over the old one that made it last longer. So I would say over all the art & architecture pillar for the Aztecs civilization was a success.
The buildings and the art has remained till this day.Over all the Aztec civilization was powerful and a successful civilization, because they used their resources wisely. With building temples instead of re-building a whole new temple, they reused what they already had. Also the color for painting they used what they had to make the different colors. And also with their paintings they used what they already had to get the paints. This made the Aztecs save on materials instead of wasting them, which also helped them be more successful in their art & architecture.
To me a hero becomes a hero by the way they are with others, how they put their self before others and treat others like they would like to be treated also how they inspire more then one person. For example the reason why my mom is my hero because I really don’t know how I would be with out her, she has a huge impact on me. And she is also my hero because I never met someone that been threw so much and still stayed strong like she did, and because she tells people her mistake and helps hem try not to do the same.
The Hero in My Eyes project was a project for us to choose one person in our life that we taught was a hero. We couldn’t just say “Oh my mom is my hero,” and not have a reason behind it. We had to have a good reason why that person was our hero, and we also had to choose one moment with that person that made them a hero. The reason for that is because in our writings we were only talking about one moment but we had to make sure by the end of our story it told us why that person is your hero.
The whole week that the class had to work on this I wasn’t here because I was sick, and that did effect me because I wasn’t able to get other peoples perspective on my writing. That also put me behind because I was so caught up on doing my other stuff that it put me behind a little bit. Now knowing how that effected my grade I know next time I should try hard to meet the requirements. Because even though it was late I still got half credit but my grade could have went up if I just turned it in.
This project also made me realize more on how good of a mom she is. Like when I interviewed her I learned some new stuff that I didn’t know which made me thinking of her as an even stronger women. A big challenge with me for this project was choosing one moment. Like I couldn’t really just think of one moment that my mom did something, she does it everyday. And another challenge was that I wanted to say so much more about my mom but I knew I just had to talk about a few things my mom does. I think this was a good project, I wouldn’t really say I would want to change something about it. But just on my part to try harder even though I was absent I should have been able to turn in my stuff on time. The way this would help me later is because I used a little bit more sensory detail so that’s a sign that my writing is improving. And that going to help me for more writings that I am going to do in my future.
I would say I used wonder. The reason for that is because when I was writing and interviewing my mom and stuff I would wonder to my self why my mom would do this, why would she do that. What if she never did this how would I be. So it made me wonder a lot. And also when I was writing I would wonder what I should put in my writing since I had so much. So those are the ways that I used wonder in this project.
“I don’t know how to give up. It’s my kids that keep me standing cause I can’t stand by myself” she said dazing off into space, with her glass of wine in her right hand and the other placed gently on her lap. Trying to avoid making eye contact I asked,
“How do you manage to play the mom roll with three jobs? And is it hard being a single parent?”
She paused as her dark chocolate eyes started to water and replied, “It is hard being a single mom because raising a family isn’t meant to be done by your self. And I manage to play the mom roll by reminding myself that I have the jobs to support my kids. ”
I felt like the only thing that really matters to her was my brothers and sisters and me. There are reasons behind everything she does, the main reason being for her kids. Knowing that she’s always been there for us and always will be there for us, makes me understand more how I should be there for my family too.
Just by watching her face expressions made me realize how good of a mom she is. It made me want to try harder and not give up. It reminded me of the time where we were struggling the most but she still managed to get us through that stage. It really is amazing how she does the stuff she does. I never met someone as strong as her, and I am very thankful she’s my mom.
She sat their with her long brown hair waving down her shoulder, the light glared off her face making her freckles pop out more. Staring at her made me realize how life is hard and how you need to work for what you want in order to be successful. She’s always encouraging me not to make the same mistakes she made.
Thinking back on the time where I was having problems with my dad, my mom was the only person that I was able to talk to that would understand the situation since she had the same problems with him. She was always the person to ameliorate the situation, the person that I could always rely on to help me with my problems.
I would constantly ask myself this question that I often thought of.
“So mom, who’s your inspiration?”
“In everybody close to me there is a part of them that inspires me to do the right thing, to be a good person. But I can’t really say that there is one person that is my inspiration.” I notice it took her longer to answer this question, then the other ones I asked her, like if this was something she didn’t really think about.
Hearing that made me wonder more. It made me think about how she became the person she is. With everything she been through I would think that she would have already given up. But she proved me wrong. She showed me that you don’t need money to be happy, that all you need is a family or friends to love you and be there for you. That also taught me that I need be their for family and friends when they need somebody too.
I could honestly say that with out my mom I don’t know what I would have done. She is one of the main reasons why I’m not giving up on life. I am who I am because of her. She taught me wrong from right. Even though I grew up in a bad neighbor hood she still was able to keep me off the streets.
Sitting down in the back seat looking out the window. Thinking about everything that happened to me this past year. Not knowing what to do, sitting there so confused. Wondering to myself, “Is this normal, for all this to happen to a 13 year old?”
Through out my life I either had people getting locked up, or passing away once a year. Last year one of my dad’s friends who were really close and friendly died. I still remember when we had gone to the hospital, and as soon as I walked in I felt this pain in my heart. But this year having two deaths in my family was even harder. My great grandma passed away in March, then my cousin passed away three months after that, I wasn’t ready for all that. Then, at the beginning of this year my cousin went to jail, and my uncle also going to jail right after my cousin’s death, and my other uncle went to jail this year. I still can’t believe that all this stuff happened within half a year. As I was thinking about all this stuff in the car and asking god “Why did this have to happen to me? I'm only 13.” Looking out the window and seeing families all happy, and at the kids walking down the street with smiles on their faces. Then looking at my reflection on the side window, it was the opposite. I still remember everything like it was yesterday and just thinking about it makes me feel like a part of me was gone.
Sometimes you have to realize stuff the hard way. That moment when I was thinking about all this stuff, I realized that life is hard. People will pass away, and you have to stay strong, and those people would rather have you living happy than be sad for the rest of your life because they passed away. And you’re just going to have to overcome that. You have to be grateful for everything you have. Be grateful that you have people that love you, because some people don’t have that. Now I realize what they really meant by saying live everyday like it was your last. You have to be grateful that you’re living another day, because some people aren’t able to. This whole time I was realizing all this stuff I was starting at the clouds, thinking about everybody that I lost through out my life.
This period in my life was hard, but it made me realized a lot of things. And while I was in the car I notice my mom looked at me and I could tell that she knew what I was thinking of, because she keep telling me that ill be okay, and everything is going to work out. All this stuff made me stronger, it showed me how to be more grateful, and it showed me how to be there for people like I would want them to be there for me. I’m thankful for everything I got, I’m thankful for my family that was there for me, and I’m also thankful for my friends that were there for me. It showed me that they were true friends.
"Where in the hell is that little girl?" T-Ray said out of anger, not knowing what to do. Ha was so mad that he couldn't find her so he started throwing stuff around. Then he goes to Lily's room one more time and re-reads the note, he got even more mad and saw the jar by her window and throws it at the wall. starting out the window he started thinking to himself "What am I gonna do now?, her dumb ass probably left because what I said about her mom leaving her. She going to have to come back, she don't got nobody but me"
The creators of batman are Bob Kane and Bill Finger. What's really interested me about batman is that he doesn't have any super powers. Every comic super hero has some kind of super power, and he doesn't. That's one of the reasons why he's one of my favorite fictional heroes. He basically showed that you could be what you want to be, that you don't need to have a super power to be a super hero, to go for your dreams. He had two side kicks which were Robin & Bat girl, but his main one was Robin. Batman's secret identity is Bruce Wayne. When Bruce Wayne was a child, he saw the murder of his parents. That's why he is a super hero now, that's why he helps save people & fights villains. He has a positive attitude on kids.
Batman got really popular in 1940 when he got his own comic book, and till this day he still his. The last movie that came out was The Dark Night and that was a really big hit, a lot of people went to go see that movie meaning that they are still fans of batman.
