Evelyn Glennie: Shows How to Listen

What will you remember about her performance? Be specific about the experience.
Just the fact that she was able to play music even though she was death. And it helped me more because you can really do anything you want if you just believe in yourself. That's what Evelyn Glennie did even when the school told her that she can't be in there because she is death, but the she proved them wrong.

Describe what it felt like listening to her play. What factors helped create this moment? You can describe any of the times that she played on either instrument (the Snare drum or Marimba).
It was interesting because at first i didn't know that she was death and that fact that she was made it even more interesting. Her music was really peaceful, and how she used some many part of her body that people usually don't use made it more interesting.

What elements of her performance influenced what the audience heard?
Like I was saying on the answer before how she was playing music with different parts of her body. And then when she told the audience to clap they all clapped with there hands and she pointed that out, but there some many other ways you can clap and make music. And how she was explain all of those.

What did she mean by, "Each person experiences music in their own way"? Think about how you experience music and why everyone doesn't enjoy listening to the same music.
I think what she meant by "Each person experiences music in their own way?", is that different people have different taste in music and there influenced by that and also if you grow up to rock music your most likely to like rock music when you older. Something else that i thought she meant was that people find different ways to play music. Some people hear music, play music, write music, and all those people experience different things with those experiences.

Farmers Market Visit.

1.) What is your name and your role here at the Farmers Market?
"My name is Jacob, and I am a sales man."
2.) Why do you choose to sell here?
"I sell here because it's my job, and this is where they send me to work. Sometimes they have me sell at other locations."
3.) When did you first start selling here?
"I first started selling freshly and organic foods around three and a half years ago."
4.) Do you garden at home?
"I own a small garden of my own at my house, but it's not a really big one. Only just a few plants."
5.) What would be your advice to get others to do what you do? Or like would you advice them to eat organic?
"Yes, I would advice people to eat and buy organic foods. Organic is always better other then foods that go through along process because organic foods and fresh foods have a better taste and there are no chemicals in them."

*My Reflection*
1. What struck me about the Farmers Market was how many people were there, I didn't think there where going to be that much people there. Also as I was walking around and you see the sellers talking to the buyers and helping them out they were really interacted with them and they weren't rude or anything. They all seamed really happy.

2. Which items were cheaper than you expected? Which were more expensive?
To me I didn't find that there was a certain item that was more expensive or more cheaper. I think all the prices were around the same price at stores.

3. Do you think you will start going to a farmers market more often? Or using a community garden? Or supporting a CSA?
If it was my choice i think i would because when I went to the farmers market the fruit and everything the seam and look way more better the ones that you buy at a store. But going to a store takes more time.

4. How do these locations fit into our essential questions of "Why Don't People Live More Sustainably?" and "How Can I Convince them to do So?"
Because to live more sustainable it cost more, and people don't have money for that. they can't afford to live better that's why they buy the cheeps stuff instead or starving themselves.

Dialectic Journal

School Daze.

Quote:
"'You see, it's not only important to keep these fourteen-to-eighteen-year-olds off the job market, it's also essentials to keep them at home as non-wage-earning consumers.'" Page 60

Response:
It was really interesting how he said this. I never thought of school like this, but reading this made me think about more things. I agree on what he is saying, same as what Julie was saying. Because Julie was basically saying that most teenagers learn things and just forget about it the next year in school. So basically teenagers are just in school to stay of the streets, and then when they graduate that's when they are really learning how to survive later on in life. Also in this quote Ishmael talks about to keep them as non-wage-consumers, which causes more jobs for older people and makes parents spend there money on the kids school stuff. so it makes the parents work harder also. The school system just seams really messed up. And how Ishmael was explaining it to Julie mad it a clearer picture and easier to understand.

Always Their For Family

Through everything, they were always there for each other. When his dad walked out on them he was there for his mom and she was there for him. Ever since he was10 years old he was the man of the house. He wasn’t like most kids; he had matured way earlier then all his friends. He didn’t have a father figure his whole life; neither did his younger brothers or sisters so he felt like he was the father figure to them. His mom would always thank him for everything he’s done for his bother and sisters, for the impact he had on their life, how she wouldn’t know what she would have done if he didn’t help out as much as he did.

When they found out that his mom was sick, and her time was coming. She only told him so that the younger ones wouldn’t worry. That’s when he knew he had to really get his stuff together, no matter what it meant. If he had to give up biking with the Hells Angels and get a real job then that’s what he had to do. His mom would tell him that she’s not that scared about where the kids are going to be, because he was going to get full custody of his younger brother and two sisters but not the other brother because he was already 20 and was on his own. But she knew they were in good hands with him. Which put more responsibility on him, and made him feel like if he doesn’t do it or if he messes up then he’s done and he put his mom down and that’s the last thing he wants to do. All the things his mom done for him, he knows that it’s worth giving up biking even though he doesn’t want to.

“How’s mom feeling?” asked Jasmine as she was walking into her mom’s room.

“She’s okay, not too good though.” Replied Richard sitting next to his mom’s bed holding her hand as she sleeps.

“Richard I’m only nine years old, I can’t lose my mom so soon.”

“I know, but throughout mom’s whole life she was a strong, single parent with five kids, she did whatever she could to take care of us. Sometimes things in life happen and we have to face it. Maybe heaven would be a better place for her…”

As he continues going on about how his mom might die, his voice sounded different. It sounded like a little kid going up on stage for the first time in front of a lot of people, and when he starts to talk he begins to cry and runs of the stage. But while Richard was feeling so much pain inside of him, he tried to act like it didn’t hurt him that much so his little sister wouldn’t get so sad about it. While they were talking they would both look at their mom sleep then look back at each other. They were holding their tears back.

Seeing how much this was going to affect his sister he was really thinking how much this is going to affect their life.

As time is passing, things are getting worse; his mom has to go to the hospital. Any day now could be the day she leaves. So everybody is using his or her time wisely like if there was no tomorrow. Family is coming to visit, but Richard never leaves the room no matter what. He knows soon enough he’s going to be planning a funeral; he’s already going to start. He made sure he asked his mom what she wants him to do, she’s naming things, he’s writing it down making sure its right so it could be like she wanted.

May 29th 11:59 p.m is the last time he talked to his mom, hugged her, and said good-bye. He wished this never had to happen to him. All his brothers and sister plus him couldn’t stop crying when they saw her eyes close.

The next few weeks were really hard for them. They couldn’t go to school because all they wanted to do was cry. It wasn’t a surprised, how could they just get over their mom’s death like that. Throughout his all Richard is stressing, he doesn’t know what to do. He didn’t know it was going to be this hard, but he promised his mom something and he’s going to be their for his brothers and sisters no matter what.

It’s the day of the funeral; so far everything’s going good. Jasmine is practicing on the speech she’s going to say at the funeral. In Richard’s mind he felt like something was wrong or he missed something, but he doubled checked everything and everything seemed fine.

As Jasmine is doing the speech at the funeral, Richard is standing about five feet away from her, he notice a bike gang. He thinks back to when his bike gang got in a fight with them. Then he looks at the Hells Angels because they were there for support, and then gives a sign to one of them. He tells the other one secretly so all the family and friends wont panic. Within seconds their driving pass the funeral, Richard sees one of them pull out a gun and aim towards his sisters as she’s talking.

For him everything is going slow motion. Thinking to himself “What’s going on? What Am I going to do? Their not going to take my sister, I just lost my mom I can’t let this happen.” He jumps in front of her to save her from the bullet. Everybody runs to him seeing if he’s okay, all the girls are freaking out more then the boys yelling call the ambulance. Jasmine is hugging him tightly crying even more. She’s not worrying about the blood that’s getting all over her dress, she just wants her brother to be okay.

“Richard come one! Stay strong the ambulances are going to be here any moment now. Richard please stay strong, I can’t lose you too! Richard say something!” Jasmine said with much tears coming down here eyes as if a rain drops falling down on a bad stormy day.

By the time the ambulance got their, it was too late. Another death in the family, how can this be happening?

Technology

Electric-Car Resurrection
Carmakers launch their battery powered rides

In this article, it's talking about how 2010 should be the year that electric cars come back to life. GM, Nissan and Fisker are the ones coming out with the cars. They put so much time into making them, over 22,000 people are already in line to get them. The car for GM is plan to come out during winter, the Nissan late this year, and the Fisker would be coming out during this summer. Although the Fisker was origanaly was supposed to come out late laster year, its supposed to meet it
's deadline this year. This article falls under Technology.

The eletric-cars are supposed to help us, and our eviorment so that we don't use so much gas that paluts the air. So hopefully it will help us. These cars aren't just here to look nice, they look nice and are better for the enviorment thats why GM, Nissan, and Fisker put so much work into the cars and hopefully they don't fail.

In 2010 is schedule when the cars are supposed to be coming out. Will see if they work and if alot of people are going to by them. By the looks of it, it does look like alot of people are going to be car owners of these car and their going to be a success.

So stuff that were obstacles for the car to come out was the biggest bankruptcy in American history. Even though this happed, GM really tryed hard to get it done. I think that all the money that they put into it would pay off, after the cars come out. They say alot of electric-car launches have a big history in delays and cancellations, but they think that this year is the year that it would really come out and meet its deadlines. But soemthing that can also affect they buyers because they might have a 2nd thought on how it really is since electric-cars don't have a good backround on them.

Entertainment

TV on the Go

Watch live TV on any screen, anywhere

The article that I read was about how your not going to need TV anymore to watch football games or anything else on TV. You could watch it on any mobile device, a cell phone, and net book. A mobile device that has a tuner chip would be able to receive signal for free from transmission towers. This falls under Entertainment.

The big deal about it is that entertainment is growing more and more year by year. And soon we are going to be able to have TV where ever we go with out having to pay for it, which makes electronic devices take over people because their always on it.

USB dongles that work like TV antennas are going to be on sale for laptops, and by the second half of this year their going to be new TV ready cell phones, and add-on dongles for cell phones we already have.

Semester Academic Goals For Humanities

1st Goal: One of my main goals forT this semester is turning in work on time, and completed. One of the ways that I am planing on working on that is doing my homework when i get it instead on waiting last minute. Also stay focused with my school and make that my first priority when I get home.

2nd Goal: A second goal for me this semester is to us my sources wisely. When I say that I mean using office hours if I need help with something, and taking advantage of my work. Also taking advantage of the people that are around me, asking them to help me.

3rd Goal: My last goal for this semester is using ownership more.Taking my time in doing my work and not just doing it to do get it mark down as i did. Also putting more thought in what I do.
